Intention Setting: Creating Your Journaling Manifesto

Intention Setting: Creating Your Journaling Manifesto by Natasha Dworkin

  1. Find a quiet and comfortable space where you can focus on your journaling practice.

  2. Take a few deep breaths to center yourself and bring your attention to the present moment.

  3. Begin by revisiting your reflections on your "Why" in journaling. Review your motivations, values, and aspirations for having a journaling practice.

  4. Based on your insights, craft a personal journaling manifesto. This is a statement that captures the essence of your intention and commitment to your journaling practice. It serves as a guiding light for your writing journey.

  5. Start by writing, "I commit to my journaling practice because..." and complete the sentence with your own words. Be specific and heartfelt, expressing your deepest motivations, desires, and the impact you wish to create through your writing.

  6. Reflect on the qualities and values you want to embody in your journaling practice. Write down words or phrases that represent these qualities, such as authenticity, curiosity, self-compassion, growth, creativity, or mindfulness.

  7. Consider the outcomes you hope to achieve through journaling, such as self-discovery, clarity, emotional well-being, personal growth, or creative expression. Write down these outcomes as statements of affirmation, starting with "I am" or "I cultivate."

  8. Craft your journaling manifesto by combining the insights from steps 5, 6, and 7. Create a concise and empowering statement that encapsulates your intentions, values, and desired outcomes. For example: "I commit to my journaling practice to cultivate self-compassion, explore my inner world with curiosity, and nurture my creative voice. Through journaling, I create space for authentic self-expression and embrace personal growth."

  9. Once you have crafted your journaling manifesto, read it aloud to yourself. Feel the power and resonance of your words.

  10. Finally, write your journaling manifesto in a prominent place in your journal or on a separate sheet of paper. Return to it whenever you need inspiration, guidance, or a reminder of your commitment to your journaling practice.

Setting an intention through a journaling manifesto empowers you to approach your practice with clarity and purpose. It serves as a gentle reminder of the deeper meaning behind your writing and can fuel your motivation and growth throughout your journaling journey.
